Simply Why ?
It's a very simple question - why a site like this? What for?
There are so many pages about whisky, so much information you can find, everywhere around, you just don’t need more. I do agree with that. On the other hand, there’s never enough stuff to read on your favourite subject.
So, why?
Because, why not?
I really like my whisky. I read a lot about it. It’s fun to read about something you like and expand your knowledge on the topic. I’m not an expert. I will never be. Simply, because I don’t have skills.
This blog is very private. It's for me. To keep my personal record of what I tried and tested, all those bottles, brands and labels, but not only this.
I have been drinking whisky for many years now but only recently (about 16 months ago) I experienced an “enlightenment” of some kind. I would say I got to the next level, the point you drink something because you like it, and not because it’s a booze.
As I have said before, there’s a lot of sites about whisky. They all tell you everything you need to know. How it’s made, all its types and varieties. You can read hundreds of reviews and surely learn a lot about the taste, smell, colour and everything else you want to know. One can notice that all of these pages use a very specific language. Particular words to describe something simple in a very complicated and pseudo-sophisticated way. Maybe too sophisticated. Whisky is complex, I agree but the fact is that 99% of its lovers and drinkers won’t be able to smell and taste all these layers and layers of flavour. Let’s face it. You won’t be able to smell all of these gently vanilla notes on the bed of butterscotch with the hint of fresh, spanish orange and bitterness which comes from american oak, all those delicate peaty overtones and ocean breeze coming right after spiciness, with cinnamon and chocolate, and I will not even mention here the homemade apple pie, marmalade toast, battered scones and a you get sitting in the winter by the fireplace. Sorry. For me it all sounds like a big pile of BS. Of course, maybe I am too simple, my nose definitely is, but still - not everyone is on the level of Master Blender to experience all of those. In fact, there’s not too many people on the planet able to do that. Not everyone can be Master Blender or top guy creating and mixing perfume. Nothing wrong with that. I believe the description on the bottle of whisky comes from the best but sometimes it’s frustrating that you can’t smell or taste the same notes. Don’t be upset because of this.
Everyone is different. And more. You have the right to enjoy what you like in your very own way. Don’t be ashamed by those who try to tell you that you should experience something else. Whisky experience is, and always will be something very personal. One may smell vanilla and the other may smell banana.
This site is for me and you. Down to earth guys and girls who like to drink whisky because of its taste, smell and whatever else it could be. You will find my very personal opinions here and I can assure you they won’t be too sophisticated, as too much is never too good. I will share my thoughts with you hoping you’ll like them and find them helpful and even funny.
I like my whisky. I know you like it too.
Let’s enjoy it in a simple, straightforward way.
Let’s celebrate it.
It’s worth it.
